Nancy O’Dell, who was identified by “Access Hollywood” as the married woman Donald Trump was referring to in a video that surfaced Friday, has responded to the lewd comments made by the GOP presidential candidate in 2005.
In the recording, first released by The Washington Post, Trump is heard talking about how he tried to have an affair with O’Dell and describing how he makes moves on women.
“I moved on her and I failed. I’ll admit it,” Trump says, speaking about O’Dell, who was then the co-host of “Access Hollywood.” The recording reportedly occurred several months after Trump married his third wife, Melania.
O’Dell addressed the recording today in a statement to “Entertainment Tonight,” of which she is now a co-anchor.
“Politics aside, I’m saddened that these comments still exist in our society at all,” she said. “When I heard the comments yesterday, it was disappointing to hear such objectification of women. The conversation needs to change because no female, no person, should be the subject of such crass comments, whether or not cameras are rolling. Everyone deserves respect no matter the setting or gender. As a woman who has worked very hard to establish her career, and as a mom, I feel I must speak out with the hope that as a society we will always strive to be better.”
In the recording, Trump goes on to say about O’Dell, “I did try and f— her.”
“She was married,” he says, adding that he took her furniture shopping and then later describing how she had changed her looks.
“I moved on her like a b—-, but I couldn’t get there. And she was married,” Trump says.
“Then all of a sudden I see her, she’s now got the big phony t— and everything. She’s totally changed her look.”
Trump put out a statement after the recording was released Friday.
“This was locker room banter, a private conversation that took place many years ago. Bill Clinton has said far worse to me on the golf course – not even close. I apologize if anyone was offended,” Trump’s statement reads.
Early this morning, Trump issued a short video statement saying “I was wrong” for making the vulgar remarks.
“Anyone who knows me knows these words don’t reflect who I am,” he said. “I said it, I was wrong and I apologize.”
