SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) – A southwest Florida woman has been convicted of trying to killing her 6-year-old daughter.

The Herald-Tribune (https://goo.gl/TeiLyd ) reports that Sarasota County jurors found 31-year-old Ashley Parker guilty Friday of attempted murder and three other counts. Parker’s sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 2. A judge will decide if she should go to prison or a mental health facility.

Authorities say Parker tried to drown her daughter in a bathtub in June 2015 and then attacked her with a knife. The young girl survived after her grandparents arrived in time to call police.

Parker’s attorneys used an insanity defense, outlining the woman’s history of mental health problems.

Prosecutors argued that Parker was lucid and knew exactly what she was doing at the time of the attack.
